Chaos in Electric Motor Drives: An Introduction
This study focuses on the highly complex and strange dynamical behavior of electric drives. The operation can be broadly classified as periodic, subharmonic or chaotic by studying their behavior through chaos and stability analysis tools like bifurcation diagrams, Poincare maps, phase portraits, Lyapunov exponent spectra, and frequency spectra. The study aims to have an introduction on how chaos is induced in various motors and how it effects the normal operation. Also various methods to control chaos in different motors have been reviewed. In complex nonlinear systems such as electric motors, periodic operation for a wide range of parameters cannot be guaranteed, hence occurrence of chaos in such systems is inevitable.
