IoT-based Manhole Monitoring with Street Light Alerts for Urban Safety
In India, the urban infrastructure faces unique challenges, a robust manhole monitoring system is essential. This research study proposes a comprehensive IoT-based solution specifically adapted to Indian cities, focusing on real-time safety and operational efficiency. The main feature is street light color modulation, which enhances public safety by visually signaling danger when a manhole lid is open, turning nearby street lights red to warn pedestrians and motorists. This is especially critical in flood-prone areas where open manholes pose severe risks. The system also incorporates gas detection to monitor toxic gas levels, water level sensors to detect sewage overflow, and real-time lid status monitoring, ensuring the safety of workers and the public. By integrating GSM communication, the system ensures rapid status updates to supervisors, enabling prompt action. This low-cost, easy-to-maintain solution revolutionizes manhole management, offering an innovative approach to urban safety and infrastructure maintenance.
