A Study on Reducing Crosstalk by Efficiently Placing Guard Vias

Press-fit connector is mounted on the Through Hole (TH)s, which cause large crosstalk. Guard vias are required to reduce crosstalk. Our purpose is to clarify the effective placement of guard vias and THs. It was shown that crosstalk can be reduced 35.7 dB by placing the guard via on the central axis of the Victim and shifting the Victim by approximately 4/5 times the distance between the signal THs.

Abstract

Press-fit connector is mounted on the Through Hole (TH)s, which cause large crosstalk. Guard vias are required to reduce crosstalk. Our purpose is to clarify the effective placement of guard vias and THs. It was shown that crosstalk can be reduced 35.7 dB by placing the guard via on the central axis of the Victim and shifting the Victim by approximately 4/5 times the distance between the signal THs.
