Advancements in Peer-to-Peer Energy Management Systems – An Overview
The global shift from centralized to decentralized energy systems is driving significant advancements in peer-to-peer energy networking systems, leading to achieve sustainability and efficiency. These systems enable direct energy exchange among consumers and prosumers, bypassing traditional utility structures. This review includes an analysis of publication trends, revealing a significant increase in research outputs over the past decade, with a focus on economic impacts, network design, social perspectives, and regulatory requirements. Key technical challenges such as scalability, interoperability, and cybersecurity will be discussed, alongside economic and social issues affecting the P2P energy systems adoption. The paper concludes with future research directions aimed at addressing these challenges and developing the field. This review focuses on the transformative potential of P2P energy networks in creating more resilient, sustainable, and equitable energy systems.
