DC-AC Inverter Modeling and Real-Time Simulation Based on FPGA
Compared to offline simulation, real-time simulation more comprehensively tests the functions, fault conditions, and operating states of power electronic systems under extreme environments, facilitating product development. FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) is preferred for real-time simulation of power electronic systems due to its powerful computational capabilities. Modeling methods and numerical integration algorithms are crucial factors affecting simulation performance, necessitating their study. This paper first analyzes the suitability of different modeling methods for FPGA-based real-time simulation. Using a three-phase inverter with LC filtering as an example, it examines the basic structure and mathematical model of the DC-AC inverter HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) real-time simulation system. It then uses state-space methods and the binary LC method for real-time simulation modeling of the inverter, studying the impact of different numerical integration methods and adopting an improved binary LC method for better accuracy. The FPGA implementation of the inverter model is done using Verilog hardware description language. Finally, a real-time simulation platform is built, and experiments on a three-phase DC-AC inverter are conducted to verify the platform design and modeling methods. This approach is valuable for the efficient real-time simulation of low-cost power electronic systems.
