Enhancing Handwritten Digit Recognition: Insights into CNN and RNN Applications
Automated form processing and digitalized document management are only two applications for the crucial skill of handwriting number recognition. It is investigated how neural networks and sequential models may be used to recognize handwritten numbers. This is an important problem that has many uses, such as automated form processing and digital document management. After a brief review of the historical relevance of handwritten digit identification, the paper delves into the fundamental ideas of sequential models and neural networks. In particular, CNNs and RNNs are utilized to explore how well they can represent the temporal and spatial correlations present in handwritten numbers. Important preprocessing methods to improve model performance are covered, including data augmentation and normalization. There are several neural network designs shown, highlighting CNNs for processing sequential data and RNNs for extracting spatial features. To ensure consistent model performance, optimization methods, evaluation metrics, and training strategies are examined. Additionally, challenges related to scalability and the diversity of handwriting styles are addressed. The CNN model achieved a high training accuracy of 99.82%.
