Voltage-Controlled dual dielectric resonator oscillator applicable to simultaneous wireless power and data transfer

This paper presents a voltage-controlled dual-dielectric resonator oscillator (VC-DDRO) that utilizes a frequency tuning circuit composed of a ring resonator (RR) electromagnetically coupled to a microstrip line terminated with high- Q varactor diodes. The circuit is integrated into the feedback loop of the oscillator to enable frequency tuning while minimizing variation in output amplitude . The RR, along with a dielectric resonator (DR), collaboratively adjusts the phase and magnitude of the reflection coefficient observed by the active element, thereby enabling precise frequency tuning. To account for nonlinear effects , the harmonic balance method is employed to analyze the proposed VC-DDRO. Moreover, the pair of coupled dielectric resonators is analyzed with the help of an accurate electromagnetic solver whose numerical results are included in the oscillator design. This leads to accurate oscillator modeling. We experimentally demonstrate a tuning range of 30.5 MHz, with output power levels between 8.5 and 12.17 dBm for a tuning voltage range of 0 to 20 V, indicating substantial agreement between simulation and experimental results. The proposed system provides flexibility for near-field wireless power transfer over distances of 9 to 12 mm, with potential application for simultaneous wireless power and data transfer .
