Further investigation on the measuring performance of a combination method of a volumetric positive-displacement flowmeter and a densitometer in measuring liquid fuel mass flow at low flow rates

This study evaluates the performance of a newly developed mass flowmeter which combines a positive-displacement (PD) type of volumetric flowmeter and a densitometer by focusing on the performance of the densitometer. The error in estimating the actual liquid density flowing through the volumetric flowmeter can be attributed to two factors: (i) measurement accuracy of the densitometer itself ranging between −0.12 % and −0.17 %. (ii) temperature variation existing between the combined two sensors estimated to be 0.5 °C by maximum, contributing to a density error of about 0.05 % for liquid fuel.

Abstract

The error in estimating the actual liquid density flowing through the volumetric flowmeter can be attributed to two factors: (i) measurement accuracy of the densitometer itself ranging between −0.12 % and −0.17 %. (ii) temperature variation existing between the combined two sensors estimated to be 0.5 °C by maximum, contributing to a density error of about 0.05 % for liquid fuel.
