Revolutionaries and Reformists: A Transnational Perspective on the Scandinavian LGBT Movement, 1972–2022

This article traces and analyzes the three national Scandinavian associations for LGBT+ persons from 1972 through today. It uses a transnational perspective to understand the international development of LGBT+ politics, which have previously been analysed as national, unconnected movements. The article delves into three aspects of LGBT+ activism that illustrate the transnational character of activism: the left-wing radicalization of gay and lesbian activism in the 1970s, the efforts to change penal codes in the 1970s, and the struggle for marriage and family rights from the 1960 through the 2010s.The article offers a careful analysis of primary material and the transnational angle as an indispensable method for analysing these dynamics.
