The pilot study investigates the degradation of pollutants in a river within Jinan City using a three-dimensional ecosystem

Ammonia nitrogen pollution in rivers is increasing day by day, and the use of plants to remove ammonia nitrogen from water bodies in large-volume sewage is a more common method. However, there are many problems in ecological methods such as traditional constructed wetlands. Therefore, the results of pilot experiments in this paper show that (1) the spatial intensification of the system: Combined with multi-level artificial ecological technology and three-dimensional hydroponic technology, a three-dimensional artificial ecosystem is constructed to maximize the use of vertical space, increase the system space and hydraulic residence time, reduce the area of more than 75% compared with traditional ecological wetlands, and exert efficient pollutant reduction ability in a small area.(2) High nitrogen removal efficiency of the system: The introduction of plant root zone microbial culture and domestication technology in the process of ecological plant culture can improve the nitrogen removal capacity of the three-dimensional ecosystem, and the ammonia nitrogen degradation rate can reach up to 96%, stably reaching the surface water environmental quality standard (GB 3838-2002) Class IV water quality.(3) To achieve low temperature and stable operation in the northern winter: Capping photovoltaic glass greenhouses outside the three-dimensional ecosystem to ensure the operating temperature of the ecosystem in autumn and winter, ensuring that the system can maintain a high water temperature at night in winter, and promoting microbial nitrogen removal and plant growth.④ Ecological and economic value: The solar photovoltaic system is set on the greenhouse, and the solar photovoltaic technology is used to provide electricity for the ecosystem. The effluent treated by the system is used for the water of flowers and plants in the system. The labor cost and equipment maintenance cost during the operation of the system are compensated by the income from the sale of flowers. To achieve the long-term operation mechanism of "green and efficient, low-carbon cycle, intelligent ecology" of the ecosystem, to ensure the sustainable and stable operation of the treatment system, and the ecological economic value is high.
