New Cold War Films: Political Propaganda and Audience Reception in Contemporary Cinema

This paper examines the evolution of New Cold War Films, which have emerged in response to the latest geopolitical tensions between global powers, particularly the United States and China. With the help of theories from Eric Louw and Noam Chomsky among others, this study elucidates how contemporary cinema, navigates the relationship between audience expectations and the subtle allusion to contemporary geopolitical issues. By examining the film Leave the World Behind (2023), this paper aims to reveal how the integration of complex narrative structures and political metaphors allows these films to reflect and respond to current global tensions, while also grappling with the challenge of engaging a modern, media-savvy audience.
