Exploring the Implications of "Emotion Work" on Gender Power Dynamics in the Status Quo
Hochschild (1979) discusses the interdependent relationship between emotions and social situations in Emotion Work, Feeling Rules, and Social Structure. By pointing out the differential expectations placed upon the binary genders in society, she explains from a constructionist perspective how females and males manage their emotions differently as a result. This essay will extend her viewpoint on how such systems can contribute to the present gender inequality in both domestic and professional settings because more attenuations have to be placed by scholars upon social stratifications and explain their significance to the status quo.
