Weight-bearing CT and Advances in the Diagnosis of Syndesmotic Instability
Detection and treatment of syndesmotic instability are imperative to optimize clinical outcomes and prevent future disabilities, chronic pain, and osteoarthritis. Assessing syndesmosis under physiological conditions has been reported to play an important role in recognition of instability, particularly if subtle. Weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT) has emerged as a novel, more accurate imaging modality that can assess the ankle syndesmosis under physiological load in a 3-dimensional manner. In this article, we briefly reviewed recent advances, various measurements and interpretation techniques for the diagnosis of syndesmotic instability using WBCT. Level of Evidence: Diagnostic; level V.
