El empresariado español en Argentina: la creación de la Fundación Cámara Española de Comercio

This article deals with the study of the entity that brought together the main representatives of an Iberian business nucleus in Argentina, during the years of convertibility (1991-2001): the Spanish Chamber of Commerce Foundation in Argentina (FUCAES). The reasons for its creation and its nature are analyzed, as well as its objectives and the type of activities carried out in those years. A broad perspective is included that takes as a general framework, on the one hand, the internationalization strategy of Spanish companies and, on the other, the conditions of neoliberal policies and their consequences in Argentina. It is observed that the function of the Iberian entity during the period studied was linked to joint offensive work by Spanish companies, anchored in key economic areas of the Argentine economy, and benefiting from the conditions of the prevailing model. The work also aims to value the contributions of a heterodox approach in the History of Business, which overcomes the limitations of orthodox visions that barely see the modern company as a passive agent or a reflection, rather than a true actor with an effect on the political and cultural aspects of societies.
