DEVELOPMENT OF SMART FARMING SYSTEM USING INTERNET OF THINGS (CASE STUDY: HOM NIL CHAKRAPHAT RICE, BANG BO DISTRICT, SAMUT PRAKAN PROVINCE, THAILAND)

This research focuses on the development of a smart farming system using the Internet of Things (IoT) for Hom Nil Chakraphat rice cultivation in Bang Bo District, Samut Prakan Province. The study aims to address issues related to inconsistent crop quality and yields due to varying climatic conditions and limited technological access. IoT technology, including sensors and automated systems, was implemented to provide real-time data on environmental factors such as soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and crop health. The study was conducted using a structured system development life cycle (SDLC) methodology to design and deploy the smart farming system. Atmospheric data was collected from August to November 2022, and the results showed improvements in water use, fertilization, and pest control. In addition, the smart farming system helped address the issue of color contamination in Hom Nil Chakraphat rice grains. Contaminant and nutritional testing confirmed that the rice meets safety standards. This study contributes to the broader objectives of Thailand 4.0 by promoting agricultural innovation and sustainability through smart farming. It also highlights barriers to adoption such as high initial costs and limited internet connectivity, suggesting the need for further support to scale IoT integration in agriculture.
