Abstract

Higher education institutions are looking to integrate the technology of cloud computing as a pivotal advancement in recent times. However, the full potential of cloud computing adoption for improving organizational performance is revealed when various factors are taken into account. The delivery of information technology services and information systems in higher education has become increasingly dependent on information systems worldwide. This paper utilized an interpretive research approach, engaging information technology technical staff and information technology governance within higher education institutions. Interviews were used primarily as a method of data collection, and content analysis was used as primary method of analysis. This paper investigates the factors that contribute to resistance of cloud computing adoption within one higher education institution. It was found that higher education institutions in South Africa should prioritize data protection, recovery, and selection of cloud providers when they adopt cloud computing to mitigate risks and enhance accessibility and scalability.
