Influence of the Al2O3 abrasive to abrasive blasting on the quality of the bond between the Co-Cr-Mo alloy and the low-temperature polymerisable acrylic
The work aims to determine the effect of the grain size of the Al2O3 abrasive used in abrasive blasting on the quality of the joint between the Co-Cr-Mo alloy and acrylic polymerizing at a temperature below 65C (acrylic for the production of dentures by the pouring method). The Co-Cr-Mo Remanium GM 800+ casting alloy (n=30) was subjected to abrasive blasting with Al2O3 grains of 60 m (n=10), 110 m (n=10) and 250 m (n=10) gradation under a pressure of 0.4 MPa, an angle of incidence of the abrasive stream of 45 for 20 s. The parameters of surface roughness, wettability and surface free energy were determined. After combining the alloy with Vertex Castapress acrylic material, the shear strength and fracture of the joint were tested. The size of the Al2O3 abrasive during abrasive blasting significantly affects the bond quality between the materials in question. Acrylic produces a stronger bond when the surface is blasted with alumina of higher gradation: 110 m and 250 m (p<0.05).The paper investigates the effect of joining Co-Cr-Mo alloy and the low-temperature polymerizable acrylic.Co-Cr-Mo casting alloys are frequently and widely used in prosthetic practice. There is no similar comparative analysis in the literature.
