The city of Vladimir as the center of the origin of Russian monarchism (from Monomakh to the Batu invasion – 1158–1238)

The purpose of the work is to prove that the ancient city of Vladimir is the birthplace of the idea of Russian monarchism, associated with reliance on the Orthodox Church and historical parallels of autoc racy, the place of formation of the Russian late medieval politics. The idea of earthly monarchy, directly derived from the biblical text, was the highest aspiration of the Suzdal princes of the second half of the XII century, an era associated with Crusades and "dangerous" dates of church Tradition. The images of King David and the "Christianized" Alexander the Great, placed on the walls of cathedrals built in those years, justified the imper i ous claims of local rulers in the best possible way. Giving Vladimir the features of Jerusalem, the center of the Earth in Christian medieval topography, further enhanced the importance of the personages of the Suzdal princes in the eyes of their subjects. The biblical view of sole power seemed to settle on the banks of the Klyazma River, leaving a century and a half later into the state perspective of Moscow, where, through the la bors of the sovereign descendants of Vsevolod, the Big Nest acquired its final forms: the Russian kingdom and the Russian Empire that followed it. Historically, the city of Vladimir played the main role in the national history in the initial period of its existence, especially in the period between 1158–1238, which is why it makes sense to pay special attention to this period of time, to give additional overview and interdisciplinary understanding. From the point of view of the research methodology, attracting exclusively chronicle information of that era is not enough, and sometimes impossible due to the lack of sources, to form a holistic picture of the life of a pre Mongolian city. Modern archaeological data, linguistic and anthropological developments come to the researcher's aid. All this allows us to see the life of medieval Vladimir more accurately, to get away from some of the stagnant con clusions of the past, and therefore, to learn more about the process of the origin and origin of Russian statehood.
