The NUSES space mission
The NUSES mission is a groundbreaking space initiative aimed at testing and advancing innovative technologies and observation techniques. NUSES seeks to explore cosmic radiation, astrophysical neutrinos, the Sun-Earth environment, space weather, and magnetosphere-ionosphere-lithosphere coupling (MILC) phenomena. The satellite will carry two state-of-the-art payloads: Terzina and Ziré. Terzina is a compact optical instrument featuring a Cherenkov telescope and advanced Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) to study the background induced by high-energy protons. Ziré will provide precise measurements of particles and gamma rays, offering valuable data on cosmic rays and potential MILC events. This paper presents an overview of the NUSES satellite’s instrumentation and discusses the scientific and technological goals of this pioneering mission.
