Cover Feature: Investigating the Mechanism of Triboluminescence: Insights from Structural and Electrostatic Characterization of Copper Thiocyanate Complexes (Chem. Eur. J. 53/2024)
Our characterized charged fracture planes, a crucial phenomenon for triboluminescence, are shown by using molecular networking and electrostatic potential. The lightning between the planes symbolizes the energy released from disrupted electrostatic interactions during fracturing, harnessed for triboluminescence. The background photographs depict single crystals (left) and their emission during fracturing (triboluminescence, right), as investigated in our study.
