The Effect of Self-Leadership of Health College Students on Learning Persistence through Learning Motivation

Objectives The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effect of learning motivation in the effect of self-leadership of health college students on learning persistence and the effect of self-leadership on learning persistence. Methods 257 J University students enrolled in the first semester of 2023 were subjected to a frequency analysis to measure the level of self-leadership, learning motivation, and learning continuity intention and to confirm general characteristics, a descriptive statistics analysis to confirm the tendency of each variable, a Pearson correlation analysis to confirm the correlation between variables, and a mediating effect analysis to confirm the mediating effect of learning motivation in the relationship between self-leadership and learning continuity intention. For mediating effect analysis, Hayes (2013)' PROCESS macro Model 4 was used to analyze the mediating effect. Results The influence of self-leadership on learning motivation, a parameter, was statistically significant (β=.672, p<.001), and the influence of self-leadership, an independent variable, on learning continuity intention, a dependent variable, was also statistically significant (β=.476, p<.001). In addition, as a result of conducting a mediated regression analysis by inputting self-leadership, an independent variable, and learning continuity, a parameter, as an independent variable, and learning continuity as a dependent variable, the effect of self-leadership on learning continuity intention decreased compared to before, but the positive relationship was still analyzed to be significant, indicating that learning motivation had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between college students' self-leadership and learning continuity intention (β=.365, p<.001). Conclusions The self-leadership of health college students was found to have a significant effect on the intention to continue learning, and in this path, the positive mediating effect of learning motivation was confirmed. It is necessary to find a variety of ways to increase the self-leadership of health college students to enhance learning motivation, and to improve the intention to continue learning.
