Bad practices of administering antibiotics via drinking water in Algerian broiler chicken farms
The incorrect use of antibiotics in livestock has contributed to the emergence and dissemination of resistant bacteria that can be transmitted from animals to humans. In this context, our research aimed to identify the poor practices of antibiotic administration via drinking water in broiler chicken farms in two wilayas of Algeria, to urge farmers to take the necessary corrective measures and to encourage the judicious use of antibiotics. We found inappropriate management of drinking water, as well as inadequate practices in the preparation and distribution of medications in the majority of the visited chicken farms, which can significantly affect the efficacy of antibiotic therapy via drinking water. Furthermore, in farms utilizing modern management practices, we noted irregularities in the maintenance protocols of the pipelines and gaps in the dissolution of medications.
