The objective of this study is to raise awareness about the increase in anxiety in people in recent years, especially in young people and adolescents. The study is an integrative literature review and as a methodological form adopted the inclusion criteria, there will be articles and studies published in the last 10 years, in Portuguese and English, in the following electronic databases: Pubmed, Scielo and online magazines and the words- key used were: Anxiolytics, anxiety, anxiety in adolescents, excessive consumption of anxiolytics. Therefore, anxiety is a normal manifestation of the body when it feels apprehensive, it is considered pathological when it results in suffering or harm to health and can even lead to depression. In this case, a medical diagnosis is important, so that the person can begin their treatment in the most appropriate way, always following medical instructions, and always aiming for their well-being.
