Simulation analysis and test verification of urban rail vehicles brake shoe wear considering temperature

This paper establishes a temperature rise simulation model for brake shoe wear to address the wear acceleration issue caused by high temperatures during the braking of urban rail vehicles. Using Archard's wear theory, a brake shoe wear prediction model that considers temperature is developed. Through simulation analysis of temperature rise under different conditions, the wear distribution of the brake shoe is studied, and accurate wear predictions are made. Results indicate a maximum 3% error between simulated and tested temperatures during three consecutive emergency braking scenarios. High temperatures also affect the hardness of the brake shoe material. The brake shoe wear prediction model considering temperature shows a 22% higher wear rate under single emergency braking conditions compared to one not considering temperature. Furthermore, the average brake shoe wear rate for Beijing subway trains is 0.27 mm/10,000 km. Additionally, weighted simulation results demonstrate good agreement with test results, showing an average brake shoe wear rate of 0.28 mm/10,000 km under varying load conditions, validating the effectiveness of the model.
