Charging Forward!
In this Editorial, we look back at how we celebrated the 10th anniversary of ChemElectroChem in 2024. In 2024, ChemElectroChem celebrated its 10th anniversary. As part of our anniversary celebrations, we launched our 10th anniversary special collection, which has already seen outstanding contributions from our board members, top reviewers, and authors of our most cited and read papers. You can check the collection here and stay tuned for more papers to come! We were also present in many community events throughout the year (Figure 1). In these events, we celebrated by supporting early career researchers and awarded several oral presentation awards (at the ISE topical meetings) as well as best poster prizes (in the conferences Electroanalysis, ECHEMS, and GDCh Electrochemistry). Editor-in-Chief, Rosalba A. Rincón, at the 247th ECS meeting in San Francisco (left), 37th Topical Meeting of the ISE (right). Together with the organizers of the GDCh Electrochemistry 2024 conference, Frédéric Hasché and Mehtap Oezaslan (Technische Universität Braunschweig), we launched a special collection dedicated to the conference, which will be open for submissions until the spring of 2025. Since we couldn't celebrate with all our authors and readers by meeting at conferences, we also had a fun online contest, hosted by ChemistryViews. You can read more about the brain teaser competition and learn about the winners here! Another way we will be supporting early career researchers in the coming years, is through our newly launched series “Electrochemistry Talents”, which will showcase the research from the up-and-coming generation of electrochemists around the world. Nominees for this series are chosen with input from our Editorial and Early Career Editorial Advisory Boards or identified by the editors, usually at community events. In other news, we're delighted to welcome a new member to our Editorial Advisory Board, Zhenyu Sun (Figure 2), Professor of Chemical Engineering at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT), China. He is also the director of Department of New Energy and Chemical Engineering of BUCT. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2006. Following this, he did a two-year postdoctoral research stay at Trinity College, University of Dublin Ireland and completed an Alexander Humboldt research fellowship at Ruhr Universität-Bochum, Germany in 2013, working on “fancy carbon materials”. From 2014 to 2015, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Oxford, UK, focusing on the metathesis reaction using heterogeneous catalysts. His current research focuses on sustainable and green synthesis of hydrocarbons and oxygenates from CO2 reduction reaction, and NH3 from N2 reduction reaction via photo-/electrocatalysis, including design and synthesis of catalysts as well as mechanistic understanding of reaction mechanism. His interest also includes other reactions involved in renewable energy conversion and utilization. He has been a strong supporter of ChemElectroChem and in 2021 co-guest edited a Special Collection dedicated to Bifunctional Electrocatalysis. We look forward to a fruitful cooperation! Professor Zhenyu Sun (Beijing University of Chemical Technology). Despite all the great news, we were saddened to lose a great supporter and great scientist. Professor Lauro Tatsuo Kubota, board member of ChemElectroChem since the journal launched in 2014, passed away in October 2024. We've been in touch (online and face to face) with many of our readers, authors, reviewers, and board members throughout this year and we're very thankful for your support, feedback, and ideas on how our journal can serve the electrochemistry community best! If you have any feedback or comments, please feel free to reach out to us by email at [email protected]. Wishing you a successful 2025! All the best, – Rosalba – Editor-in-Chief ChemElectroChem
