Raft FormingFloating Tablets ofClarithromycin Using Natural Polymersfor The Treatment of Peptic Ulcer: Developmentand Evaluation

Peptic ulcer disease has been a widespread problem over the past few decades, despite many experimental therapeutic approaches. The aim of these trials to formulate a raft-based method for creating a gastro-retentive floating tablet with clarithromycin as a potential medication. Moreover, raft-forming component xanthan gum and alkalizing agents and Na2CO3 and CaCO2 were used in the formulation. The amount of CaCO2 and Na2CO3 utilized as raft building chemicals was the only factor that affected raft formation. After the tablets were created utilizing the direct compression method using a multi-stationary tablet punching machine, their raft strength, weight fluctuation, percentage drug content, thickness, hardness, friability, floating lag time, and in vitro drug release were evaluated. The in vitro drug release of every trial batch was found to be satisfactory. On the basis of maximal control drug release and in vitro buoyancy studies, the F3 batch was optimized.A study on the compatibility of drugs and excipients revealed no interactions between the two.The study's conclusion was that raft-forming floating tablets combining alkalizing agents and clarithromycin might be a useful treatment for peptic ulcers
