EFFECT OF MAGNETIC FIELD ON THE EFFICIENCY OF ISOTROPIC ACOUSTO-OPTIC DIFFRACTION IN OPTICALLY RESISTANT b-BaB2O4 CRYSTALS

In the present work, we have analyzed the Bragg AO diffraction in beta-barium borate crystals under the interaction of the eigen optical waves with circular (elliptical) polarization caused by the magnetic field due to the Faraday effect. It has been found that applying the magnetic field can essentially increase the AO figure of merit. We have revealed the essential change of the AO figure of merit under the action of the magnetic field for the first-fourth types of AO interactions with QL and QT1 AWs.The maximal change is peculiar for the third type of AO interaction with the QT1 AW.The AO figure of merit increases on the order of magnitude, i.e., from 1.710 -15 s 3 /kg at zero magnetic field to 16.510 -15 s 3 /kg at H=10 6 Oe.However, it has been found that the maximal value of the AO figure of merit for studied crystals in the YZ interaction plane is still observed for the sixth type of AO interaction with the slowest QT2 AW at zero magnetic field. At these conditions, the AO figure of merit is equal to 34.010 -15 s 3 /kg.The application of a magnetic field does not change its value.
