Copper’s Strategic Analysis for India: Resource Assessment, Demand Projection, and Global Partnerships

This paper presents a strategic analysis of India’s critical minerals, focusing on copper, assessing resource availability, demand projections, and international partnerships from 2024 - 2030. Utilising data from both national and international sources such as the International Energy Agency (IEA), Geological Survey of India (GSI), and other relevant bodies, the study follows a structured methodology involving data collection, cleaning, and exploratory data analysis. Regression algorithms are employed to model and forecast future copper production and demand trends. The study underscores the critical role of copper in India’s clean energy transition and technological advancement, highlighting the importance of reducing import dependence through domestic resource development and strategic global partnerships. The report provides policy recommendations for sustainable mining practices, enhancing supply chain resilience, and fostering international collaborations to ensure a stable supply of critical minerals essential for economic growth and national security. The findings suggest that a robust critical minerals policy, coupled with advancements in exploration and sustainable practices, is crucial for meeting India’s future demand and achieving its green economy goals. A more strategic approach to critical minerals management is needed to ensure long-term sustainability and security.
