The Application of the Negative Pressure Wound Therapy in Patients with Cutaneous Melanoma and Soft Tissue Sarcoma: A Case Series

In recent years, numerous studies have analyzed the use of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) to reduce postoperative wound complications, yielding positive and encouraging results. Although its use in oncological settings remains a topic of debate, we investigated its effects in six patients diagnosed with melanoma and sarcoma to assess its safety and feasibility also in these conditions. Three patients underwent vacuum-assisted closure followed by single-use NPWT, while the other three were treated directly with single-use NPWT in a preventive setting after neoadjuvant radiotherapy. None of the six patients developed wound complications; however, one sarcoma patient experienced local recurrence. Further studies are needed to confirm the safety of NPWT in oncological patients and better understand the correlation with specific histotypes.
