Expresiones idiomáticas para el aprendizaje de la cultura en la clase de ELE

The relevance lexicon has acquired in language teaching has meant a qualitative leap both in research on language acquisition and in its application to classroom practice. In recent decades, there is an increasing number of studies and research dealing with this topic. A clear example of this interest can be seen in the contributions made at conferences and meetings on language teaching, as well as in numerous articles, master's final projects and doctoral theses, which usually combine research and teaching practice. It is our intention to contribute to this, and consequently we have designed this contribution thinking about several interrelated principles, which are to allow students of ELE (Spanish as foreign language) to acquire greater lexical competence by understanding the different cultural settings in which idiomatic expressions occur and design a practice in a context of natural and real immersion-based language experience. That will allow them to check what has been learned while putting it into practice. Our proposal is based on theoretical concepts in which lexicon and culture walk hand by hand and ends with a series of activities aimed at a B2 level where students understand and put into practice a whole series of idiomatic expressions.
