Power Arcing Faults RF-Signals Measurements Descriptive Statistics Results

The power arcing faults are not only dangerous but also these electric hazards are also difficult and complicated to detect, locate and suppress from the system. These electric defects are quite often associated with the single phase-to-ground faults. It follows that due to their intermittent behavior, characteristics, and nature the electric power arcing faults hazards cause challenges to the power system conventional, traditional and/or the existing faults detection methods onto which rely exclusively on the power systems relays and fuses protection due to these fuses- and relaying-systems recurrent and/or seldom failures. Hence, reliable, and alternative accurate arc faults detection and location methodologies based on radio measurements could provide certainly best solutions to mitigate and suppress these unwanted parasitic faults hazards. Especially since these parasitic power arcing faults tend quite often to develop to fully established faults without mentioning these hazards related damage which affect considerably the parts of the power system and to some extent the adjacent structures. However, one should bear in mind that the power arcing fault detection has been gaining full interest in terms of location and detection methods which are which are based on the radio measurement exclusively instead of relying on the power system voltage and current measurements. Nevertheless, methods based on radio measurements have been rare or seldom, although relevant published literature have provided evidence that the restriking behavior, nature, and characteristics of the arcs subsequently generate spherics that can be detected from remote distance with the aid of wireless devices, namely the directional antennas’ arrays. However, this project intends to present the power arcing faults radiated Radio Frequency (RF)-signals measurements statistics results. As these arcs related Electromagnetic Radiated (EMR) signals statistics results could be used afterwards to provide a better understanding of these unwanted parasitic electrics hazards associated behaviors, nature, and characteristics. Thus, subsequently enhancing an improved single-phase-to-ground fault detection and location algorithms via the arcing faults radio measurements exclusively. Without mentioning that this novel arcing faults detection and location method will contribute to some extent to supplement the Distribution Management System (DMS) and/or the Outage Management System (OMS) for the purpose of compensating and overcoming either the recurrent and / or the seldom failures of the aforesaid traditional and/or the conventional power system protection devices and schemes.
