On the Filter Design for Underwater Communication Channel

The design of an efficient digital filter is of the most importance in the underwater wireless communication channels. The underwater communication is characterized by limited bandwidth and power, therefore we need to design efficient filter for the optimum signal detection and estimation.Various kinds of filters are motivated according to the need of the designer such as low pass, high pass, band pass and band stop filter. But one of the best ways to design filter is to first design a low pass filter and then use appropriate shifting and truncating method to get the desired response of the filter. This paper is used to model a band limited communication channel as a linear filter whose frequency response matches the characteristics of the channel. We also require the phase response of the filter to be linear. Therefore in order to get a linear phase response, Finite Impulse Response (FIR) or non-recursive filter is used which is obtained by the approximation of polynomials.
