The Impact of POE-LIFE and the Usage of Artificial Intelligence on Students’ Mental Health and Authenticity at Bina Nusantara University

Emotion is something that cannot be explained by logic as it is what humans will feel depending on certain situations as each situation can trigger certain emotions. Some emotions need more effort to manage, such as anger, sadness, and other negative emotions. One of the efforts is to express their emotions through literature. POE-LIFE is a developed app to be used as a platform for students to express their emotions through poems, it is also completed with an Artificial Intelligence (AI) function to help students with their poems. The objectives are to know the contributions of POE-LIFE in helping students manage their sadness and anger, to discover the reason(s) behind student’s comfortableness in using AI or not using AI when they are writing poems in POE-LIFE, and to find out the reason of the loss of authenticity when students use AI’s help when writing the poems. The methods used are qualitative and quantitative research methods by analyzing the reasons provided by the participants through the surveys as well as measuring the number of students picking certain answers. The results are that POE-LIFE did help students relieved their emotions, but it is not enough; Most students are quite comfortable in using AI as it can provide ideas for them, but there are still some who did not like to use AI in making poem; and AI did somehow make some students feel like they lose their authenticity if they used the ideas provided by the AI.
