A Buck-Boost Converter with Coupled Inductors for High Voltage Boosting Performance

This paper proposes a novel high static conversion ratio buck-boost converter topology that employs coupled inductors to significantly increase the voltage boosting capability. The unique characteristics of the converter are explored for different values of the turns ratio, yielding to an asymmetrical static conversion ratio. A theoretical analysis of the proposed converter, together with a comparison of the static conversion ratio for multiple turns ratio values, the theoretical waveforms, design equations and the simulation results are provided in the paper. The results validate the potential of this topology to achieve a higher voltage gain. The converter proves its suitability for applications that require a high difference between input and output voltages.
