A Novel Multi-Mode Decision Scheme for H.264

Since network connectivity has increased tremendously, advanced mobile/communication devices face challenges storing and transmitting data. Therefore, with the growing demand for multimedia content over streaming applications, effective implementation of the compression model is highly recommended for bandwidth-constrained devices. As a video compression standard in the IP camera industry, H.264 has established itself as a key scheme in the better future of video compression. Despite several revisions and updates since 2003, it lacks efficiency in computational performance aspects owing to its complex mode of the encoding execution pipeline. This prime issue in the traditional $\mathbf{H}.264$ becomes an integration impediment in mainstream research and development of video compression. However, in the current line of research, improving both computing performance and quality of reconstructed signals in $\mathbf{H.} 264$ remains a challenge. In this study, we introduce a rate-distortion model that optimizes the prediction of intra-frames in H.264. The strategy applies a novel macro-block oriented prediction-based strategic schema, which ensures enhanced encoding operation and reduces encoding time to a greater extent. The experimental simulation outcome exhibits the effectiveness of the proposed intra-frame prediction schema for H.264 in terms of coding efficiency, reconstructed signal quality, and encoding time.
