Silicon Photonic Adiabatic Low-pass/high-pass Filters Using Sub-wavelength Grating Waveguides

We present the design of, and design methodology for, a low-pass/high-pass adiabatic filter on a silicon-on-insulator platform using sub-wavelength grating waveguides. We experimentally demonstrate a filter that has <0.8 dB insertion loss and a compact footprint of 240 μm-by-3 μm that operates within the C-band.

Abstract

We present the design of, and design methodology for, a low-pass/high-pass adiabatic filter on a silicon-on-insulator platform using sub-wavelength grating waveguides. We experimentally demonstrate a filter that has <0.8 dB insertion loss and a compact footprint of 240 μm-by-3 μm that operates within the C-band.
