A Tunable Photonic Biosensor Based on Nanoplasmonics by Using Nematic Liquid Crystals

We explore an innovative biosensor design in which liquid crystal birefringence Δn is used to tune peaks of absorption of localized surface plasmon resonances in gold nanorods. Finite Element Method based simulations show that a tunabilty of 43 nm can be obtained for Δn= 0.4.

Abstract

We explore an innovative biosensor design in which liquid crystal birefringence Δn is used to tune peaks of absorption of localized surface plasmon resonances in gold nanorods. Finite Element Method based simulations show that a tunabilty of 43 nm can be obtained for Δn= 0.4.
