Efficient-coupler design for heterogenous integration of GaN lasers on SiN platform

Heterogeneously integrated III-Nitride lasers on SiN platform accelerate the development of shorter-wavelength photonic chips. Here, we investigate the feasibility of such a platform by simulating the optical mode transition from the laser to the SiN waveguide. We also proposed a precisely engineered compact taper with 99% coupling efficiency.

Abstract

Heterogeneously integrated III-Nitride lasers on SiN platform accelerate the development of shorter-wavelength photonic chips. Here, we investigate the feasibility of such a platform by simulating the optical mode transition from the laser to the SiN waveguide. We also proposed a precisely engineered compact taper with 99% coupling efficiency.
