Developing an Assistive System for Dementia Patients using Raspberry Pi and YOLOv5: A Step Towards Improved Quality of Life

Dementia, a complex mental health issue predominantly affecting the elderly, presents profound challenges including memory loss and difficulty recognizing the family members. With approximately 50 million individuals worldwide affected by dementia and a significant shortage of trained caretakers in India, this paper seeks to address the pressing need for better detection techniques and assistance solutions. This proposed work aims to perform two tasks: primarily, proposed method can diagnose the dementia stage of the patients based on question answer model. and secondarily, to assist the patients with their daily routine work using YOLOv5 which uses CNN (Convolution Neural Network) for face and object detection and recognition with 98.7% accuracy.
