Topology Optimized Slanted Grating Couplers

We describe novel enhancements to topology optimize slanted structures and study the effect of slant angle and feature size on coupling efficiency, bandwidth, and back-reflections on grating couplers. We achieve maximum coupling efficiency of -0.9 dB with 93 nm 3-dB bandwidth.

Abstract

We describe novel enhancements to topology optimize slanted structures and study the effect of slant angle and feature size on coupling efficiency, bandwidth, and back-reflections on grating couplers. We achieve maximum coupling efficiency of -0.9 dB with 93 nm 3-dB bandwidth.
