Geometrically-shaped multichip DPSK

We improve the design of M-DPSK transponders for free-space optical communications. We show that, by using multichip waveforms, geometrically-shaped constellations, and maximum-likelihood sequence detection, the receiver sensitivity is increased by several dB compared to conventional DBPSK.

Abstract

We improve the design of M-DPSK transponders for free-space optical communications. We show that, by using multichip waveforms, geometrically-shaped constellations, and maximum-likelihood sequence detection, the receiver sensitivity is increased by several dB compared to conventional DBPSK.
