Hybrid Implementation of a Doppler Shift Compensation Solution for LEO Satellite Communication Systems
The relative movements between a satellite in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and its ground station lead to rapid variations in Doppler shift, which influence the quality of communications and the acquisition of telemetry data. Understanding and compensating for this lag is crucial to maintaining the quality and accuracy of communication links. This article outlines the development of a generalized solution that combining both hardware and software components to efficiently estimate and correct this Doppler shift for LEO satellites by considering transmission delays as well as satellite ephemeris data. This approach was implemented in a processing board integrated into an S-band ground station located in Algeria. The experimental results obtained during real passes of the ALSAT-2A satellite were satisfactory, and the Doppler compensation model offered precision correlated to the estimated Doppler frequency.
