Germanium on Silicon dual-detector for solvent recognition

Controlling the spectral response of optical devices is highly desired for several sensing applications. Herein we present a voltage tunable Ge-on-Si dual-band photodetector capable to sense from visible to short-wave infrared ranges. The device results from the junction of a Si and Ge photodiodes in a back-to-back configuration which enables the pixel level data acquisition under the same experimental conditions, allowing the information combination from the visible and infrared bands, enhancing the imaging and sensing applications.

Abstract

Controlling the spectral response of optical devices is highly desired for several sensing applications. Herein we present a voltage tunable Ge-on-Si dual-band photodetector capable to sense from visible to short-wave infrared ranges. The device results from the junction of a Si and Ge photodiodes in a back-to-back configuration which enables the pixel level data acquisition under the same experimental conditions, allowing the information combination from the visible and infrared bands, enhancing the imaging and sensing applications.
