Impact of Contentionless ROADMs in the Transition to Multifiber Optical Networks

We evaluate the impact of the ROADM contention-less feature on transitioning to multifiber optical networks. Simulation results indicate that CDC ROADMs delay the activation of new fibers and slightly increase long-term capacity. However, capacity gains are short-lived under heavy exponential traffic.

Abstract

We evaluate the impact of the ROADM contention-less feature on transitioning to multifiber optical networks. Simulation results indicate that CDC ROADMs delay the activation of new fibers and slightly increase long-term capacity. However, capacity gains are short-lived under heavy exponential traffic.
