96% Complexity-Reduced Nonlinear Equalizer for a C+L-band 1.13Tb/s/pol Coexistent IM/DD- and Comb-based Coherent-PON System

A novel nonlinear equalizer with 96% complexity reduction, compared to the third-order Volterra equalizer, is proposed. We further demonstrate a coexistent PON employing both 20-km, 50-Gb/s IM/DD and 80-km, 1.08-Tb/s/pol comb-based coherent systems. It shows a ~4-dB receiver sensitivity enhancement compared to IMDD-PON with FFE.

Abstract

A novel nonlinear equalizer with 96% complexity reduction, compared to the third-order Volterra equalizer, is proposed. We further demonstrate a coexistent PON employing both 20-km, 50-Gb/s IM/DD and 80-km, 1.08-Tb/s/pol comb-based coherent systems. It shows a ~4-dB receiver sensitivity enhancement compared to IMDD-PON with FFE.
