A Buck-Boost Converter with Asymmetric Static Conversion Ratio

This paper presents a novel buck-boost converter capable of achieving both higher and lower output voltage compared to the input voltage, depending on the value of the duty cycle. It exhibits an extended step-up capability in the sense that it can boost the output voltage for a wide range of the duty cycle, while the step-down nature is achieved in a narrow interval. The converter is capable to surpass the static conversion ratio of the traditional boost converter if the duty cycle is higher than 0.59, offering greater flexibility and efficiency in applications requiring high voltage gains. The converter was thoroughly analyzed, simulated, and practically implemented to validate its feature, demonstrating its applicability in systems requiring a high static conversion ratio.
