Rețeaua hidrografica din regiunea de sud a Republicii Moldova

The present research is dedicated to a brief analysis of the hydrographic network within the Southern Region of the Republic of Moldova. In total, 1170 rivers with a length of about 4.1 thousand km were identified, of which 94.5% are streams with lengths over 50% of the total. The average density of rivers is 0.44 km/km2 , this decreases by 2 times if we exclude the streams, which often dry up in the hot season, or increases by 2 times if we add the irrigation canals, built in the river floodplains. The total length of the canals is 3770 km, and the density – 0.41 km/km2 . The number of reservoirs is 4767, with a total area of 129 km2, or 1.39% of the area of the region. 99.6% of these accumulations have areas below 1 km2
