Fashion and Mental Health: Exploring the Psychological Impact of Fashion Choices on Consumer Identity
This paper investigates the psychological effects of fashion on consumer identity and mental health, focusing on how fashion shapes social standards and serves as a means of self-expression. It examines how psychological elements, including self-concept, peer perception, social media, and cultural influence, impact fashion decisions through a multidisciplinary lens. The dual nature of fashion is also discussed in the paper, emphasizing how it may promote inclusivity and increase self-esteem while simultaneously exacerbating mental health conditions like anxiety, body dysmorphia, and compulsive spending. This study attempts to offer a thorough grasp of how fashion shapes consumer identity and psychological well-being by examining several academic frameworks, such as self-expression theory and social identity theory. It emphasizes how crucial it is to support inclusive and sustainable fashion practices to improve social cohesion and mental wellness.
