Enhancement of chirality induced spin selectivity by strong electron correlations
Chirality induced spin selectivity is a spin-polarized phenomenon resulting from a helical structure with a considerably effective spin-orbit coupling. The large spin polarization observed in chiral organic molecules is remarkable due to their weak spin-orbit coupling. To understand the origin of the counterintuitive experimental results, we study the transport properties of single-stranded DNA under strong electronic correlation utilizing renormalized mean-field theory and Landauer-B"uttiker formulas. By introducing a strong correlation, the spin polarization is significantly enhanced and reaches 46.5% near the metal-insulator transition, which is consistent with previous experiments. Furthermore, we study the impact of the coupling at the contact interface and the size dependence of the system.
