Founded in 1883, one of the objectives of the Kölcseyi Cultural Association was the establishment of a public library for the people of Arad. Among the books that entered the library’s collection in the years that followed, through donations and acquisitions, there was a special group comprised of the books printed in the 16th-17th centuries, in Latin, in Western Europe. In this part of Europe, they arrived two hundred years after being printed, as collector’s items. The collecting criteria were their age, the publisher and only lastly their content.
